Born and raised in the suburbs of Chicago, Brooklyn Bates moved to the Atlanta area at the age of fifteen. Graduating from Dutchtown High School she attended the University of West Georgia to pursue a Biology degree. She loved science and planned to become a cosmetic Plastic Surgeon. However, deep down Brooklyn knew this path was not her passion. In 2017 she made a life changing decision to switch her major to Fine Arts with a concentration in Photography.
Brooklyn has organized and coordinated artistic pop-up events and volunteered for various gallery exhibition planning committees. Her work has been featured at West Georgia University, Atlanta Photography Group gallery, and the Millepiani Loosen Art gallery in Rome, Italy. Her first solo show premiered virtually just before completing her Bachelor’s Degree in Fine Arts in the Spring of 2020.
Brooklyn decided to take all of her knowledge, skills, and creative talents to the film industry. Recognizing that her college journey was a stepping stone leading to her purpose as a Storyteller. Her art reflects the human experience and is a reflection of herself and the community she loves.
As First Team Production’s Research Project Manager she works shoulder to shoulder with her mentors and Founders, Jennifer “Jédon” Hatcher and Monique Shaw. Inspired by Jordan Peele, Issa Rae, Nia DaCosta, Katori Hall, Misha Green, and many other writers, producers, and directors Brooklyn aspires to become a Director in her own right. Her goal is to change the narrative of representation within her community through the art of Filmmaking.
